Tulips!

Tulips!

No sign of the black ones yet, but we have a lovely array of white & red tulips. Apparently we DID plant them too deep for the squirrels to find!

Good old Bill

Over dinner last night:

M: I’m having juice with my pizza. Cuz it’s going to be a long, long time before I can have wine.

Me: That’s right. Wine is a grownup drink. (Wondering where this came from, since we’re not having wine.)

M: My bus driver Bill drinks lots of wine!

Me: Um. I hope he doesn’t drink it while he’s driving the bus.

M: No, just when the bus stops at stop signs. He has a cupholder.

Triumphant egg-hunter

Triumphant

A bit belated, but here’s a picture of our easter-egg hunt. This was Take II of the hunt — I snuck outside and hid 30 of the small foil-covered eggs, but 45 minutes later when we went outside to hunt for them, all but three had vanished, presumably eaten by squirrels. Fortunately Maddy took this in good humour. We had more chocolate in the house, so she agreed to let me pretend to be the Easter Bunny.

Drywall!

Drywall!

Much progress in the bathroom: real, modern wiring (now mostly hidden); insulation (also now mostly hidden); plywood on the bits that will have wainscotting and greenboard on the bits that will show. And the window is new too.

Not visible in the photo is the cementboard around the shower area. It really deserves its own photo, since the screws that hold it to the wall behind it cost a minor fortune and it would be a shame to cover them with tile before properly showing them off.

The wire sticking out of the wall on the right near the light switches will control the programmable thermostat for the floor heat. Never again will anyone in our house have to step on an icy bathroom floor first thing in the morning. Aaah.

Visited countries map

Interesting meme, although mine is kind of sad-looking (though I like the tiny red French Polynesia dots in the middle of the Pacific):

Older and wiser

Every year on my birthday I share a small piece of my accumulated wisdom. For the upcoming year my bit of (recently-learned) wisdom is this:

Do not, on an overnight flight, sit in the first of two exit rows on an airplane, because for “safety reasons” those seats do not recline.
